  • The National Mall: A must-visit for any visitor to DC, the National Mall is a historic park stretching from the Lincoln Memorial to the U.S. Capitol. It's home to iconic monuments and memorials such as the Washington Monument, Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Veterans Memorial, and more.

  • Smithsonian Museums: Washington, D.C., is famous for its many Smithsonian museums, most of which are free to enter. Among the most popular are the National Air and Space Museum, the National Museum of American History, and the National Museum of Natural History.

  • Temperature: October marks the transition from summer to fall in Washington, D.C. The average high temperatures range from the upper 60s to low 70s Fahrenheit. (19-22 degrees Celsius). However temperatures can vary, so it’s a good idea to check the local forecast closer to your visit.

  • Precipitation: October tends to be a moderately rainy month in D.C. with an average of around 3.5 inches (89 mm) of precipitation spread of 9-10 days. Rainfall can come in the form of scattered showers or occasionally steady rain, so carrying an umbrella or raincoat is advisable.

  • Fall Foliage: October is a beautiful time to witness the changing colors of the leaves in and around D.C. The foliage typically reaches its peak during the latter half of the month, offering vibrant hues of red, orange, and yellow.
